Sharing is caring!
As a Mum, I look forward to Mother’s Day every year. Not only do we usually spend the day making some fabulous memories, but Darren and I get to create some beautiful crafts with Arlo that I can keep forever! I know I will love looking back at them for years to come, so I always take the opportunity to sneak a few extras in!
Likewise, I think our kids enjoy the opportunity to show their love and feel a great sense of pride from creating something their Mum loves so much! Let’s face it, kids can make anything and Mom will love it, but here I am sharing 5 simple and crafts you can make. They’d make the perfect DIY mother’s day gifts for Nanny or keepsake any mom would treasure forever!
1) Fork painting with vase printable

This printable resource is one of The Little Learning Hub’s march resources. If you aren’t a member, you could draw your own. The idea is to grab a fork and press it into some paint (Handy Tip: Use an old paper plate or piece of scrap paper to hold your paint. Afterwards, you can throw it away with no washing up!) and make a stamp onto each flower stem. This creates a beautiful effect that looks just like tulips! Plus, it’s nice to have something for kids to make entirely themselves!
2) Heart painting

For this one, you can grab our free resource here.
It’ll give you a range of different designs to choose from and full instructions for how to use it! As an alternative option, you could use a stanley knife to remove the centre heart and place a photograph behind.
3) Salt Dough heart handprint

There are a ton of different options for this one. You could use two footprints to form a heart or two hand prints. You could cut a heart or flower using a cookie cutter and place a photo behind it. It is an easy craft that is sure to make mom proud! Don’t forget, you will need to make a small hole at the top so your salt dough can be hung up! This handprint craft is a great way to remember how small those little hands once were and makes an easy diy project your little ones will love!
You could even make small hearts using finger or thumb prints and thread them onto a nice piece of ribbon to make a necklace keepsake!
For the dough, you’ll need:
- 500g plain flour
- 290g table salt
- 340ml water
4) Plate painting

I have created a few of these over the years and they are always a hit! All you need to do is grab a plain plate or mug (Ikea is great for this) and some suitable pens (I suggest these).
Then, you can write or draw whatever you fancy on the plate. They make a great gift and will last forever! For preschoolers or children too young to draw for themselves, draw around their foot or hand to create a flower or heart on the centre of the plate or mug. You might want to do a test run on a piece of paper first, so you can be sure you like your final design. It’s the perfect mother’s day craft idea and I love that older kids and younger ones can both join in.
5) Paper Plate Wreath

To make your wreath, all you need is a paper plate. If you don’t have any to hand, grab a dinner plate and draw around it onto a piece of thick paper or card.
Remove the centre of the plate, then decorate the outside with whatever you have. This could be colouring egg cartons to look like flowers, cutting around hand or footprints, using scrunched up tissue paper or even real flowers!
Finally, use a hole punch to make two holes at the top of your wreath and hang up.
So, there we have it! 5 Fabulous crafts you can do this Mother’s Day to make some beautiful keepsakes and gifts! Which one are you going to try?
